When I was just seven years old my parents, my four siblings, and I moved into Seward Tower East, a CommonBond property in Minneapolis. We were lucky to not only find a stable home, but a caring community.
People were friendly, welcoming, and willing to help when I needed it. It was comforting to know I also had an extended family made up of my neighbors and friends.
Having the support of those around me was key, but something that makes CommonBond even more unique is the programs available to help residents every day. Staff offer a range of services such as financial education and budgeting, access to food and transportation resources, art and health classes for older adults, and something that I am personally incredibly grateful for – youth and teen programming.
One program in particular, Study Buddies, made a huge difference in my life. When I met my Study Buddy, Kathy, in elementary school, I never could have known the impact she would have and that I would still be in contact with her after all these years!
Kathy not only gave me academic support and mentorship, but also taught me to dream big. She helped me navigate possible career opportunities, write scholarship essays, and make choices about my college education.
After graduating high school, I went on to be a first-generation college student at Augsburg University. Kathy was with me every step of the way and continued to offer me guidance throughout my academic journey. She is like family to me.
I am so grateful for the friendship we have formed. She gave me the encouragement I needed to pursue my ultimate career path: accounting and finance.
Now, I am proud to share that I am working at CommonBond Communities on the accounting team! It is so special to know that I began my journey at Seward Tower East, and now am working for the same organization that helped me and my family blossom.
There are many other young people like me who would thrive with the support and community I had while living at a CommonBond home. You can help open more doors for families to achieve their goals by making a gift.
Thank you for your support of CommonBond Communities.
