Afro Deli is one of the latest restaurants to join Minnesota Central Kitchen in their work to provide prepared, culturally-appropriate meals to communities throughout the Twin Cities.
If you haven’t heard, Minnesota Central Kitchen has been providing food to families in need since the early days of the pandemic. Part of that work includes partnering with local restaurants in order to provide prepared, culturally-appropriate meals to communities throughout the Twin Cities. We at CommonBond are especially grateful for the partnership of both Minnesota Central Kitchen and Afro Deli, as they have been bringing hot, ready-to-eat halal meals for hundreds of Skyline Tower residents to enjoy.
“Our residents love Afro Deli,” said our Teen Program Coordinator Demetrius Shaw, sharing how these meals are feeding residents of all ages. “We know that there are disparities over the summer when kids aren’t getting enough food, so we try to provide those substantial meals.”
We especially love this sentiment from Afro Deli owner Abdirahman Kahin: food is love, and he’s simply taking care of his neighbors.
To hear from CommonBond’s own Demetrius Shaw as well as Afro Deli owner Abdirahman Kahin on why this food is so important to the community, check out this KSTP news clip.
