National Night Out at Granada Lakes Townhomes

This past August, the CommonBond team at Granada Lakes Townhomes hosted a lively National Night Out for their community, complete with a fire truck, face painting, and a raffle for prizes.

“We had a great turn out, and the youth and adults really had fun,” said Jelanna LaFleur-Donaby, the Youth Program Coordinator at Granada Lakes. “We have a great team at Granada, and working together to support the community is something we do on a daily basis.” Along with the games and festivities, preparing kids to go back to school was the focus of the event. “We made 75-100 hygiene bags for youth which included a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and soap. We also gave out backpacks and school supplies,” said Jelanna.

One special highlight of the event was that the Granada Lakes team was able to arrange free haircuts for boys in the community. Trenece Jones, Granada’s Advantage Services Coordinator, has a family member who is a barber, and he generously agreed to come and volunteer his time providing free haircuts for several families. “The young men would have great confidence with new haircuts for school and it was one less thing for parents to have to worry about,” Jelanna said.

The team at Granada Lakes works hard to support residents and build community. The event was a success for residents of all ages and demonstrated the power of coming together as a community to create something amazing “The parents, teens, and youth were extremely grateful and appreciative and they pitched in if we needed an extra hand. We were happy and it was a great success!”
